| Keep 'em, rolling . . . | Many of the DiagnoSYS products are designed as bench top units that can be moved from workstation to workstation, or nailed down to a shipboard workbench. Some may even be fitted to mobile test labs. We understand the complexity of the larger, free standing S790 Series as a high performance, high quality test system. Most of us know that the PinPoint has more uses that we can shake a stick at when it comes to diagnosing printed circuit boards. Some of us know that DiagnoSYS products are not only used in military and aviation, but other mission critical industries. Yet it may come as a shock to some of you that DiagnoSYS products help keep the trains running in a number of cities around the world. One of these cities is the behemoth we call New York City, who recently took delivery of two S500 systems. ![]() DiagnoSYS answered the call from Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Inc. by providing a complete test solution for New York City Transit to use in diagnosing failed Doppler modules and help return rolling stock to active status. Two S500 units were delivered in the Q4 of 2006 adding to the coverage DiagnoSYS' provides to the transportation sector. DiagnoSYS addressed these challenges to provide our customers with a high performance, robust design that is safe, easy-to-use and serviceable. Contact us to see how the S500 system can fit into your test and repair operation today. |

| Tech Tips from the Pros | Did you know there are two modes of operation for device pin contact detection! a) Standard -5.5 Volt Bias b) Checking for Device Signature using 15 Volt, 1500 Hz Bias. This method simply determines whether there is any Device signature at 15 Volt, 1500 Hz Bias condition - if there is, then Contact is assumed to be made. Contacts mode is set in Program Studio, Program Board. From the file menu select Options ~ Contact Detection ~ select desired option. This action sets the contacts mode for the "Current Board". This selection is now part of the TPD and will follow the Board to the Test Board Environment. Happy Testing! Want to share some of your experiences? Send your tips to Terry Harvell today! |

| Are we done yet? | Each issue we bring up the training topic. Some people think this is the most critical path to success. Having the right tools you need to diagnose and repair boards is only half the battle. Learning to effectively use those tools is the other half. (If you doubt the wisdom of this statement, think how far you'd go if no one 'learned' how to drive a car.) DiagnoSYS understands the continual need to hone ones skills needed to reduce the turn-around time for mission critical, or not, testing. Keeping your staff current on the PinPoint II increases the effectiveness of the entire operation. If you generate test programs, test boards or are responsible for maintaining the PinPoint II, you should consider an annual training visit to Kissimmee. ![]() Here is the schedule for the Standard Training Class' for the first half of 2007:
An advanced class will be held on March 26-29. Contact Rob Profeta for more information about the Standard or Advanced Training class. Once you learn how to effectively use a PinPoint, you might also want to learn how to calibrate and maintain the hardware to ensure uninterrupted operation. What PinPoint II hardware needs to be calibrated, how do I calibrate it? If I have a driver error, how do I troubleshoot it? How do I safely disassemble the system? These questions and more can be answered when you attend the PinPoint II Maintenance Training class. A session will be scheduled for 2 days and will be a hands-on class, featuring use of calibration routines, removal and replacement procedures, and system configuration control. First class is tentatively scheduled for March 2007. Check the 'Training' page on our web site for the dates of the first class. Complete the form located on our web site at http://www.diagnosys-usa.com/schedule.html to request a specific class or download a Training Class Registration Form (http://www.diagnosys-usa.com/Training Class Registration Form 8-3-05.pdf) Contact Rob Profeta for more information about the Maintenance class. |

| Spotlight | Rich Plank Editor's note: The Spotlight On section of our newsletter will focus on one of our distribution partner, direct staff or an end user of DiagnoSYS products and services. This issue features one of our Kissimmee based staff members. Some people work in the background to ensure that what you see really is what you get. Rich Plank is one of them. His duties cover vast amounts of unseen work that result in the smooth running of DiagnoSYS' network, lab and S500 systems. Rich's talents are a combination of self-taught and formal schooling combined with OTJ University. Raised in Hornell, NY (about 40 miles South of Rochester and ½ way to Corning), Rich joined the Air Force in 1993 spending most of his service time in the UK. His assignment was as an aerospace ground equipment technician on the flight line. Following his military career saw Rich joining Spectrum Technologies where he handled the torture-test style validation and qualification for components used in nuclear facilities. Here at DiagnoSYS Rich handles PinPoint repairs, hardware only- sorry no programming, tester configuration and builds the S500 product. He really likes the constant challenge of fixing things. The constant variety definitely keeps him on his toes making for interesting days. The S500 recently delivered to New York Transit as part of a Kawasaki Heavy Industries contract show how far Rich has come from his start at DiagnoSYS as a 'peon' (Rich's phrase). Rich wears a number of hats in Kissimmee that keep him hopping daily. Officially he handles duties as the IT manager, senior technician, network administrator, web administrator and lab supervisor. If that's not enough, when he gets home he's a husband (to Karen) and father to three girls (ages 15 & 13), including a set of twins. Considering that Rich came to Florida with a single suitcase, thanks to UPS loosing 3 boxes containing irreplaceable memorabilia - including photos and a Yamaha equalizer, he's doing great! | Return to top |
